James Brummer Associates practice as architects and interior designers and have been specializing for 25 years in architectural planning and interior design of residential, commercial, and specialized interior projects, conservation, planning, urban design, and accessibility consultation.
Projects have been completed in the greater Gauteng and Cape Town areas, Eastern Cape, Lowveld, KwaZulu Natal, Amsterdam and Los Angeles.
Our clients range from private to institutional. We are registered with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession, and James Brummer is a visiting lecturer to various universities and judges on competitions.
Our work has been published in numerous publications. The practice was awarded 3rd prize in the 1989 Newtown Urban Design Competition and has received awards and citations in various competitions.
The Practice, established in 1986, works in association with J. Bruce Burmeister Architect in Cape Town and is also associated to the Consulting Practice of Julian Lap James Brummer Architects, Urban Designers and City Planners.
The office functions under the direction of James Brummer (B. Arch, UCT 1980; Pr. Arch), and senior members Alexandra Jackson (BSc Interior Architecture, University of Pretoria 2007), and Katleho Matlere (candidate for the Degree of Bachelor in Architectural Studies).
The practice is styled on the principles of a medium sized design studio in association with other firms, and presents clients with varied structured professional services, to suit specific needs of clients and projects.
We believe in the direct one-on-one working relationship and interaction between professional and client. We subscribe to the concept of good environments making good economic sense, and the philosophy that man must comfortably live and work in nature and the man made environment.
